SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- So now the world of sports casts an eye
toward Texas.
Four college basketball teams hope to claim a championship at the
Alamodome, which is a quick walk under the interstate from one of
those places that give a city its fame. New Orleans has the French
Quarter. Fort Worth has the stockyards. Memphis has Beale Street.
Minneapolis has a bustling shopping mall.
San Antonio has a slow river.
The River Walk, the Paseo del Rio, follows the San Antonio River
for a big-bending 2 1/2 miles. Stone paths on both sides of the water
take visitors to shops, restaurants, hotels and saloons. The Alamo
might be the heart of the city. But the quiet, green river is its
artery.
