The stocky, balding man walked calmly into the bank on Lititz Pike
and handed a note to the teller demanding cash. He didn't show a gun.
When he got what he wanted, the bank robber hopped into a Ford
Taurus and turned onto Lititz Pike. The heist one week ago became the
sixth in Manheim Township in just three months.
The holdup in Lancaster's largest suburb illustrates an apparent
trend here: Bank robbery has become more of a suburban and rural
crime than an urban one in recent years, statistics show.
There are no clear explanations, but police and officials suggest
that robbers are choosing targets close to major highways and
avoiding the congested downtown areas.
