Huntsdale Fish Hatchery employees play mom and dad to fish.

The hatchery is one of 13 in the state that gives trout and other fish a healthy start before they are released into streams and ponds across the state.

Each fall and winter, hatchery culturists begin the trout life cycle by harvesting eggs about once a week for two months from specially cared-for brood stock.

These 2- to 4-year-old fish are the best of the best, selected for their size, color, and egg size and color, said Terry Farner, station manager at Huntsdale Fish Hatchery near Carlisle.
