Huntsdale Fish Hatchery employees play mom and dad to fish.
The hatchery is one of 13 in the state that gives trout and other
fish a healthy start before they are released into streams and ponds
across the state.
Each fall and winter, hatchery culturists begin the trout life
cycle by harvesting eggs about once a week for two months from
specially cared-for brood stock.
"These 2- to 4-year-old fish are the best of the best, selected
for their size, color, and egg size and color," said Terry Farner,
station manager at Huntsdale Fish Hatchery near Carlisle.
They are put to sleep using a specially-formulated anesthesia and
