After controlling the pace for Thursday afternoon's first 68
minutes, Lancaster Mennonite head coach Vernon Rice was hoping his
squad could find a crack in Elco's stingy defense to break a
scoreless tie.
With a section title at stake, Mennonite senior Rebecca Dickenson
didn't want to keep the home crowd waiting any longer. When Rachel
Horning's corner kick landed directly in front of Elco keeper Heather
Frederick, Dickenson seized the opportunity and charged the net to
score at 68:22 and give the Blazers a commanding 1-0 lead.
"She made a great effort to slide and put it in the net," Rice
said of his senior defender.
Dickenson's goal sparked an offensive explosion for the Blazers.
