The idea, really, is revolutionary.
Sheetz operates some 300 convenience stores in six states,
including 180 in Pennsylvania. But the company's new 10,000-square-
foot Altoona store is one of a kind.
Dubbed a "convenience restaurant," it features both gas pumps and
hand-tossed pizza cooked in a brick oven, magazines and panini
sandwiches. Consumers can pay for gasoline at the pump, then head
inside for a homemade gourmet salad or gelato.
There's only one thing missing, say Sheetz executives. And that
one thing has everyone in a tizzy.
Sheetz earlier this year asked the Pennsylvania Liquor Control
Board for permission to sell six-packs at the convenience restaurant.
