Mount Joy officials are among the first statewide to compete for a share of a $5 million grant to revitalize the area around the borough's downtown.

In a public hearing Monday, Mount Joy officials gave an overview of the state's new Elm Street Program, which is designed to compliment the Main Street Program's focus on downtown revitalization. Officials will work now to file the grant application requesting as much as $250,000, with a minimum local match of 10 percent required.
