The streets of Manheim Township are not about to run ripe with raw
sewage.
But a variety of factors have prompted the Lancaster Area Sewer
Authority to begin upgrades to one township pumping station
immediately, and some township residents with basement floor drains
have been advised to install check valves and perhaps purchase some
insurance, just in case.
At issue is the aging sewer system which the township sold to LASA
last year for $31 million. LASA officials knew the system would have
to be upgraded at some point. No one expected that it would have to
be upgraded so soon.
