How important is your vote this year? Eight years ago I wrote a
column on the topic of voting. Much has changed and much remains the
same. According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau report of voter
registration and actual voting, approximately 50 percent of the
registered voters are still not voting. The recent primary election
turnout was even poorer than that. What a difference it would make if
those eligible and registered would actually vote! This issue needs
to be highlighted once more because many people in the United States
and in Lancaster County neglect this privilege. Throughout our
history, people have fought and died to provide and protect our
freedom to vote. We need to honor ...
