The 21-story shell of brick and glass looms over the rolling
Carolina countryside, a solemn reminder of the past that still
haunts the world that Jim Bakker built.
It was supposed to be the Heritage Grand Towers, 500 more hotel
rooms to house overnight visitors at Heritage USA, Bakker's bustling
2,100-acre Christian resort. Today, it remains unfinished, frozen in
time, as Bakker, paroled last week, adjusts 100 miles away to life
after prison and the resort's new Malaysian owners pour millions
into reviving the surrounding buildings and grounds.
To drive the roads, it might be 1986 again, Bakker's last full
