It's an extraordinary field trip, a demonstration of thoroughly
modern telecommunications and an indication of where Maryland Public
Television would like to be in the future.
The occasion is a series of four electronic excursions that will
enable selected students to talk with researchers working in
Antarctica.
The first two take place this week - 40-minute telecasts on
Tuesday and Thursday at 2 p.m.
The series is made possible by a satellite link between
Antarctica and a two-way interactive classroom facility at MPT.
The classroom, with equipment from Bell Atlantic, has cameras,
view-screens, projectors and microphones, permitting students to
interact in a live video arrangement with ...
