The Virginia men's soccer team surprised Indiana, a record crowd
and just about everybody but itself today by defeating the
top-ranked Hoosiers, 1-0, to claim an unprecedented fourth
consecutive National College Athletic Association title.
Senior striker and Georgetown Prep graduate A.J. Wood scored
the game's only goal in the 21st minute, setting the record for
career goals in NCAA tournament play with 13. At the end of the
game, Wood, who had never scored in an NCAA final, led the Cavaliers
on a victory lap in front of 12,033 fans at Davidson College's
Richardson Field, the largest crowd in final four history.
