Sylvia Licata, who turns 100 today, said her secret to living a
century is being happy.
"My husband and I lived a good life. We had a very happy life. He
was a wonderful man," Sylvia said. "If you live like that, you will
live longer."
Sylvia never thought about the years passing. "I just went along
happily," she said.
Born in Palermo, Italy, on Jan. 6, 1905, Sylvia was the oldest of
three children of Rose and Peter Russo. At age 7, she experienced two
deaths in the family - first her brother died, then her father.
After her father's death, her mother brought Sylvia and her
sister, Caroline, to the United States. But Caroline also died at a
young age.
