Steven Wright bends reality like Salvador Dali bent clocks.

So it comes as no surprise to learn that Wright, a surrealist stand-up comic, has a Dali print hanging over his fireplace in Carlisle, Mass.

"The painting is of two nuns standing in the middle of all this insanity," Wright said by phone. "But, if you look at it another way, the two nuns become the face of an old woman."

What a perfect metaphor for Wright's comically skewed perception of the universe.

If ever they make a bio pic of his life, it should be written by Charlie Kauffman and titled "The Eternal Abstraction of the Absurdist Mind."

Random ponderings - like how deep would the ocean be without sponges? - seep out of Wright ...
