HERSHEY - Pat McCarthy figured his high school hockey season was over and it hadn't even started yet.

The Manheim Township senior tore the ACL and meniscus in his right knee before the season began, and when the Blue Streaks finished the regular season with an 8-8 record, a long playoff run didn't figure to be in the cards.

Then a funny thing happened. Township got hot.

The Blue Streaks defeated No. 1-seeded Ephrata and then shut out Elizabethtown, bringing them to Thursday night's Central Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League Tier 2 Lancaster/Lebanon/Berks Division championship game.

This was where the magic looked like it would end.
