Article: Willow Street residents want new school to stay in area

Lampeter-Strasburg School District needs to build a larger elementary school to accommodate a growing number of students from Willow Street, and some residents are upset the new school may be built three miles away from Willow Street on the district's main campus.

Opened in 1924, Willow Street Elementary School is the district's oldest building. According to Superintendent Robert Frick, it can hold 275 students. Currently, 250 are enrolled.

The school board determined the Willow Street building is too small. If the district were to expand the building, it would be forced to bring the entire building up to code, which could cost more than new construction. So, the district will need to close ...
