Article: Fire company needs funds for new engine

Pequea Fire Company needs a new fire engine, and it is worried that in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, federal grant money for emergency management initiatives may have all but disappeared from central Pennsylvania.

So the Martic Township fire company is doing the next best thing: turning to the community.

"We need local folks to help the local firefighters," fire company Chief Kevin L. Hertzog said Monday.

"We're in need of a new fire engine, and that could wind up costing us between $175,000 and $225,000.

"That's a lot of money for a little department," he said.
