Bethel AME Church is the focal point of Strawberry Street. The
church also is central to a state Elm Street program here designed to
improve the appearance of Strawberry and streets to the north an
area now referred to as "ChurchTowne.'' That project, in the planning
stages for months, reaches a crucial point this week when two public
meetings will gather information vital to moving ahead. "The success
of this project depends on citizen involvement,'' says Jane Pugliesie
