Ben Gibbard is a busy man. With his pet project The Postal Service
making huge waves over the past year, in addition to the overwhelming
success of Death Cab For Cutie's "Transatlanticism," it's doubtful he
had time to write any truly profound material. Wrong. "Plans" is by
far Death Cab's most polished effort, due to the fact that it is the
band's major label debut. Aside from the gloss and glamour of sleek
production and flashy vocal manipulations, Gibbard's lyrics shine. On
tracks such as "What Sarah Said" and "Lovers on a Hotel Bed," it can
be seen that Gibbard is a master songwriter. Taking a few notes from
both Paul Simon and Peter Gabriel, he laces each and every phrase
with wit and ...
