At 10 p.m. Wednesday, my father tried to call me, anxious to deliver some exciting news.

Unfortunately, I was in bed sleeping, trying to recover from a nagging cold.

So it wasn't until the next morning that I got wind of the big scoop:

The Phillies had just traded for White Sox hurler Freddy Garcia.

They gave up 23-year-old right-hander Gavin Floyd, a former first- round draft pick who blew several opportunities to entrench himself in the starting rotation, and 21-year-old lefty Gio Gonzalez, a very promising prospect the Phils received from Chicago in the Aaron Rowand-Jim Thome deal last offseason.
