Lutheran congregation traces rich history to early 18th-century
log structure.
One of the first Lutheran congregations in Lancaster County had to
stand guard against American Indians during services on the Sundays
they were able to worship together.
Their log building was heated by a bonfire in the center of the
dirt floor in the winter months when their minister was in the area.
Next Sunday, the members of Muddy Creek Evangelical Lutheran
Church in East Cocalico Township will celebrate their 275-year
history in their well-heated, brick edifice.
The anniversary celebration, which will continue throughout the
year, will open with a visit from Bishop Carol S. Hendrix....
