Article: In U.S., Electoral College matters most

TO THE EDITOR:

E. J. Dionne Jr. has lost it. His column, "Junk the antiquated Electoral College" (Intell, April 3), would flunk sixth-grade civics. He did not come close to supporting his point that the Electoral College be dumped in favor of a popular vote for the U.S. president.

First, he never demonstrated an understanding of why we have an Electoral College in the first place. Second, he never attacked the intellectual underpinnings of the Electoral College. Perhaps he does not understand why the United States has an Electoral College. It is not my job to enlighten him at this time. He should have had someone do that research for him before he wrote his column.
