Article: Vets: Guinea pigs too crowded

Doctors, pet-store workers agree conditions described in animal cages at county coroner's house are unhealthy.

Lancaster County Coroner Dr. G. Gary Kirchner says the injuries found on his guinea pigs were the result of wounds from fighting, which he says is normal behavior.

But several veterinarians and a pet store worker disagree.

Kirchner was cited July 3 with 11 counts of animal cruelty after a Humane League officer found ill and injured guinea pigs at Kirchner's home in East Lampeter Township. The citations list eye and ear infections and injuries to the back, legs and ears.
