More than 20 South Shore charter boat captains plan to fight proposed federal fishing restrictions they say would effectively kill the tourist-driven recreational fishing industry in Massachusetts.

The restrictions, proposed by the National Marine Fisheries Service, would ban recreational fishing boats from a prime fishing spot from Massachusetts to Maine and limit the catch for charter boats. The new ruleswould put many charter boat captains out of business, said longtime Marshfield captain Tom DiPersia.
