Article: Health board scoffs at removal of indemnity; Selectmen's action meaningless, members say

Members of the Abington Health Board dispute the legality of a decision to leave them vulnerable to personal loss in the legal fight over a proposed trash transfer station.

On Monday, selectmen revoked the indemnity of the health board members after the town's lawyers, Kopelman & Paige, dropped out of the case in frustration over what it called too much meddling by the board.

But the health board members and their new lawyers said the selectmen ignored state and local laws that effectively force the town to protect public officials from personal liability while acting in their official duties.
