About twice a year, 16-year-old Chelsea Nickerson is subjected to a two-week stay at Children's Hospital in Boston.

Chelsea has cystic fibrosis, a genetically inherited disease that can lead to frequent infections in the lungs. If left unchecked, the infections can develop into pneumonia and other illnesses.

Chelsea's father, Richard Nickerson, is running in the Boston Marathon next month to raise money for the disease his daughter was diagnosed with as an infant.

Nickerson is divorced and has joint custody of Chelsea and her brother, Colin, 13. The children live with their mother, Cheryl Nickerson, and attend Plymouth public schools.
