Being a nurse is a challenging job, but Rosemary Phelan, RN, MS, at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, has an even tougher job.

Phelan is South Shore Hospital's Perinatal Loss Coordinator. She has the daunting task of educating hospital employees on helping patients to deal with the emotional impact of miscarriage. She has developed a program that teaches them how to understand and support patients' needs and grief.

Cristina Garcia, 33, of Halifax had a miscarriage last month. She was almost seven weeks pregnant.
