Article: House votes to end Cuba travel ban

WASHINGTON - A measure backed by South Shore congressmen to end the 40-year-old travel ban to Cuba was passed by the House last night after a long and contentious debate. It now goes to the Senate and, if passed there, faces a veto by President Bush.

By a vote of 262-167, the House attached an amendment ending the travel ban to the Treasury Department appropriation bill. The amendment removes from the appropriation money for employees to enforce the ban. It was sponsored by Rep. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz.
