PORTLAND, Maine - High marks to the on-site barbecue grille and the microbrewery behind first base, but I'm not sure about the between-innings catch-a-hurled-lobster contest.

A two-hour road trip to historic Hadlock Field, home of the Portland Sea Dogs of the Double-A Eastern League can be a nice diversion for area sports fans. It's also one that Red Sox fans may have more reason to make next season.

As the Boston Red Sox's affiliation agreement with the Trenton (N.J.) Thunder expires this fall, amid complaints from Thunder management that Boston didn't stock the team very well, it seems more likely the Sox's Double A franchise will shift to Portland. The first day ...
