Article: Shakespeare Shake-Up; Akalaitis Likely to Be Replaced at Public Theater

JoAnne Akalaitis, who was handpicked by the late Joseph Papp to succeed him at the helm of the celebrated New York Shakespeare Festival, appears likely to be replaced by director-playwright George C. Wolfe, sources at the festival said yesterday.

The replacement would come if the festival board acts, as expected, on a restructuring recommendation it will receive on Monday.
