Article: Whooping cough case suspected at Frolio

A student at Abington's Frolio Junior High School may have whooping cough.

The student was diagnosed by a local physician Wednesday, Principal Peter Schaeffer said. A commercial lab confirmed the diagnosis.

But the case has yet to be confirmed by a state lab, said Susan Lett, medical director of the state Department of Public Health's immunization program.

Nonetheless, Schaeffer sent a warning letter from the state health department home with the school's 405 students Wednesday.

It told parents that their children may have been exposed to a child with whooping cough.
