Article: Rezoning proposal worries riverfront property owners

The Patriot Ledger

Weymouth has 90 days to decide whether to rezone property near the proposed Greenbush railroad station to prevent unwanted development.

Two of the property owners, however, say the change would restrict the land use too much, discouraging maritime use along the Fore River. They proposed making exceptions for shoreline property or creating a special district.

"I'm concerned that the new zoning does not encourage maritime use at all," David Higgs, who owns a boatyard on the river, told town officials during a public hearing last night. "I'm concerned that you're not considering the historic nature of that area."
