Proposed revisions to Plymouth's charter wound up in limbo last night following last-minute maneuvering and a spat between selectmen and the finance committee.

The third and final session of the fall annual town meeting ended with a 58-56 vote to indefinitely postpone consideration of the charter review committee's recommended changes.

After 18 months of work, charter review committee Chairwoman Marie Chaffee was displeased.

"I'm unhappy and embarrassed and sorry that town meeting was so confused by the board of selectmen and finance committee that they could do nothing," Chaffee said. "It's extremely unfortunate that confusion reigned."
