The future of the Rockland Golf Course is still a question mark.

The town's selectmen held a hearing last night to try to determine whether residents think the town should buy the 18-hole course.

More neighbors turned out for the hearing than golfers.

Neighbors favor the town buying the Plain Street golf course because they do not want Atlantic Development of Hingham to build 175 senior-housing units on a portion of the property.

"Plain Street is treacherous as it is, with people trying to get in and out of the golf course," George Crane said of the traffic. "We should talk about why we want that property open."
