MANSFIELD - Off-price retailer TJX Cos. is closing two
distribution centers in Mansfield and moving operations to
Bloomfield, Conn. More than 500 Mansfield workers will lose their
jobs in the move, part of Framingham-based TJX's effort to
consolidate operations for the company's HomeGoods division, a TJX
spokeswoman said. The first wave of 200 layoffs was planned for
today; the remaining workers will be let go by the end of June. TJX
operates the T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods chains. The
Bloomfield center opened last spring. TJX expects employment there
will grow from 350 workers to more than 500 as the company expands
the number of HomeGoods stores nationwide from 216 to 600.
