A federal agency investigating allegations of improper fund-
raising tactics by Mayor Sharon Pratt Kelly has extended the probe
and is questioning dozens of lower-level city officials.
"All that we can say is there have been additional developments in
the case that have made it necessary to interview significantly more
witnesses than we initially anticipated," said Paul Ellis, a
spokesman for the office of special counsel. He said it will take at
least 30 days more to talk to everyone on the list.
For nine weeks, the special counsel has been investigating
allegations that top D.C. officials, at Kelly's request, called
vendors with city contracts and told them they were passing their
names ...
