Article: Randolph warned of budget shortfall; Finance committee asks selectmen to call special town meeting

RANDOLPH - The budget year is a little more than two months old, and already the town is running into money problems.

Chairman Arthur Goldstein told the finance committee last night that lower than expected free cash and some other expenses have created a deficit of $250,000, which could grow larger.

Barring any last-minute boost in state aid to the town, Goldstein said "we have to revisit the budget because we have to balance the budget."

The finance committee is asking selectmen to call a special town meeting, with a suggested date of Nov. 7.

The shortfall represents a fraction of a percent of the town's budget of $64.65 million.
