ROCKLAND
Not only did first-grader Sarah Slayter celebrate a birthday
Friday, she also became a starfish. Slayter donned a purple
starfish costume, complete with five arms and plastic suction cups on
the underside, to show her classmates at Esten School how the sea
creature eats.Starfish, in fact, literally spit out their
stomachs and consume prey outside their bodies. The first-graders
also learned about hermit crabs, snails, mussels and other animals
found on the seashore as part of the New England Aquarium's "Tidepool
Experience."
