Bosnian Croat forces launched an attack on Muslim positions in the
southern city of Mostar today, and Croat militiamen were seen forcing
Muslims from their homes there and herding women and children into a
soccer stadium, U.N. officials said.
The renewed fighting between the nominal allies in Bosnia's three-
sided war came on the first day of a republic-wide cease-fire between
Bosnian Serb and Muslim factions, and it illustrated the complexities
of the former Yugoslav republic's 13-month-old communal conflict.
Sarajevo, the Serb-besieged Bosnian capital, was largely quiet
after the cease-fire took effect, but it was unclear if the truce was
