After nearly four decades owning and operating its restaurants, Papa Gino's is cooking up a new business model.

The most efficient means for Papa Gino to move beyond its traditional New England turf is franchising, according to a former Dunkin' Donuts executive who is spearheading Papa Gino's expansion.

"It's the same reason every franchisor wants to franchise," said Tony Padulo, a senior vice president for the Dedham-based pizza chain. "You have the ability to grow more quickly, leverage your capital and grow faster in other markets than you're typically able to do on your own."
