A balanced fiscal 2007 budget awaits town meeting approval April 1, but a Proposition 2 override could be waiting in the fiscal 2008 wings.

A year ago, Town Administrator Kevin Donovan described the proposed budget as being "balanced on the head of a pin." The $31.3 million spending plan for next year is no different.

With fixed costs up $1.6 million, and with a possible $700,000 deficit looming, the finance committee was prepared to ask voters to approve an override.

Selectmen worked with Donovan to balance the fiscal 2007 budget by taking money from the stabilization fund.
