WEYMOUTH - When word got out that vinyl siding was not on the list of preferred materials to be used on homes to be built in the redeveloped South Weymouth Naval Station, the Vinyl Siding Institute sprung into action.

"We're interested in maintaining a fair marketplace out there," said Matthew Dobson, the Washington, D.C., institute's regulatory director, who hopped a plane to Weymouth last week to sell base development officials on vinyl.
