If this past week's heat wave had you sweaty and sleepless, you might want to be in the market for an air conditioner. Before heading to the store, make sure to measure the living space you want to keep cool. If you're buying a window unit, measure the window. "You should really get one for each room," said Bob Hanley, a salesman at Yale Appliance and Lighting in Dorchester. If you try to cool an entire floor with one unit, "it gets very, very cold (where the air conditioner is) and you're really not doing anything for the other rooms."
