The demand for pharmacy technicians is increasing as Americans live longer and healthier.

To help meet that demand, Quincy College began an online pharmacy course, through Gatlin Education, one of the largest noncredit online course providers in the country. It costs $1,595, including five books and a certificate of completion at the end of the course. Pharmacy technicians usually take a national certification test once they are already working at a pharmacy.

The course can begin at any time, and is expected to take close to 240 hours over six months. But because many students enrolled are working other jobs and moving at their own pace, the college easily grants extensions.
