BOSTON - Philip Johnston of Marshfield is disputing a report that
he will turn over the chairmanship of the Massachusetts Democratic
Party to John Walsh of Abington, who orchestrated Deval Patrick's
history-making gubernatorial campaign.
The State House News Service is reporting that party leaders have
met to discuss the best way for Johnston to leave so Walsh can
replace him.
"I have no plans to resign," Johnston, 62, said last night. "If I
do, I will make a public statement. I think people are jumping to
conclusions."
Johnston, a health-care consultant, has been party chairman since
2001. His term ends in November 2008.
