Article: Proposed budget is lean but balanced

Voters in Hull will be presented a lean but balanced budget for fiscal 2008 when town meeting convenes May 7.

The current staff would be maintained but some vacant positions might go unfilled under the "no-frills" and "virtually level-funded" budget, Town Manager Philip Lemnios told officials last night.

Earlier this month, officials predicted a $925,000 shortfall for the fiscal year starting July 1.

The revised bottom line, $35.7 million, is less than the current budget of about $35.9 million.

Lemnios, selectmen and the town advisory board last night reviewed the proposed budget and other spending and non-monetary proposals awaiting town meeting consideration.
