On the art-house circuit this weekend:
'Live-In Maid' ('Cama Adentro') ***
Writer-director Jorge Gaggero makes us realize how much films
want us to like characters. "Live-in Maid" is a study of two women
who appear not to like each other very much, yet their link makes
for a moving drama about friendship.
Dora (Norma Argentina) is the 51-year-old live-in maid of Beba
(Norma Aleandro), a 59-year-old onetime socialite and divorcee who
can no longer pay Dora her monthly wage. You may not like either
woman all that much, but you may like what Gaggero uncovers.
After some 30 years of servitude, Dora has reason to harbor
hostility toward her snobby employer. Dora waits on her hand and ...
