John B. Penney, 80, formerly of Huckins Road in Strafford, died
Thursday, March 3, 2005, at Havenwood Retirement Community in
Concord.
Born May 19, 1924, in Newton, Mass., he was the son of the late
Merle and Lily (Cartwright) Penney.
Jack lived in Strafford since 1974 but had been going to
Penneybrook Farm since his parents bought it in 1935. He was a
graduate of Winthrop (Mass.) High School, class of 1941. He served in
the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant and pilot during World War II and then
graduated in 1948 from Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.
He was the director of recreation in Rochester, Brattleboro, Vt.,
Concord and Newton, Mass., from 1948 to 1974. He then worked for the
