The Children's Place is warning parents to watch for colds that
include a violent uncontrollable cough after a 4-year-old boy was
diagnosed with whooping cough earlier this month.
The drop-in daycare center called 61 families who had children at
the center during the mornings of Sept. 13, 14 and 16, after a boy
who attends the center developed a cough that turned his face red and
left him gasping for air. The boy was treated and is doing fine, his
mother said.
Whooping cough sounds to many like a throwback to another era
because, in general, children are vaccinated against the disease when
they are infants and again at 18 months and 5 years.
