Xander Hupfer, age 18 months, has a picture-perfect nursery, with pastel walls and matching curtains, a changing table, a mobile and even a triple-decker row of stuffed dinosaurs, monkeys, snowmen and bears.

There's only one thing missing: the crib.

That's because when bedtime rolls around at the Hupfers' Deering home, Xander piles into the queen-size "family bed" with his parents, Jamie and Brett.

Family beds came under fire earlier this month from the American Academy of Pediatrics, which issued a report calling bed-sharing "hazardous," saying it can contribute to sudden infant death syndrome.
